How do I book an appointment?

Do I need a referral?

When booking, you can request specific providers based on availability for Wellness and Aesthetics. We accommodate preferences whenever possible.

Can I see specific providers?

Only with your explicit consent. We can coordinate with external specialists, previous providers, or other healthcare professionals when you authorize information sharing. 

Can my information be shared with providers outside Nova?

With your consent, providers who are collaborating on your care (like your family physician and wellness team, or your dermatologist and aesthetics provider) can share relevant information. You control your privacy preferences. 

Can my Nova providers share information with each other?

Nova follows all provincial and federal privacy legislation and healthcare confidentiality standards. Your information is stored securely and accessed only by your care team with appropriate permission. 

How is my health information protected?

Physician oversight, Registered Nurse led health coaching, medical-grade protocols, prescription medication management when appropriate, and integration with your broader healthcare. 

What's the difference between Nova Wellness and commercial weight loss programs?

Some drug plans provide partial coverage for weight loss GLP-1 medications. Coverage varies significantly. We help navigate insurance and can provide information on out-of-pocket costs. 

Are GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy) covered by insurance?

No. Wellness programs are available to anyone, regardless of where you receive family medicine care. 

Do I need to be a Nova patient to access wellness programs?

Medical dermatology addresses disease-related skin conditions (covered by Alberta Health Care). Cosmetic dermatology addresses aesthetic concerns (typically private pay, often provided through Nova Advanced Aesthetics). 

What's the difference between medical and cosmetic dermatology?

To see our dermatologist, a referral from your family physician is required. Nova Family Medical patients can be referred internally by their physician. If you receive care outside of Nova, simply ask your family doctor to send us a referral.

How do I get an appointment to see the dermatologist?

We prioritize natural results and thorough consultation to ensure expectations align with outcomes. For injectable treatments, adjustments can sometimes be made. Physician supervision ensures medical management if concerns arise. 

What if I don't like my results?

Yes. All aesthetic consultations are complimentary with no obligation to proceed with treatment.

All Nova providers are fully licensed and credentialed: 
  • Physicians: Licensed with College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) 
  • Nurse Practitioners: Licensed with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) 
  • Registered Nurses: Licensed with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) 
  • Registered Nurse Injectors: Appropriately certified and trained, Licensed with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) 
  • Medical Aestheticians: Appropriately certified and trained 
  • Other providers: Appropriately credentialed for their scope

What credentials do your providers have?

Clinical guidelines, evidence-based protocols, quality assurance processes, infection control standards, medication safety systems, and continuous quality improvement. 

What safety protocols do you follow?

Medical emergencies are directed to appropriate emergency services (911, emergency departments). Our providers are trained in emergency response, and we have emergency protocols in place.
